August Visit to the Garage Youth Club

Visit of our members to the Garage Youth Club Eling Recreation Ground on the 20th August
.
Claire Richardson the youth leader extended an invitation to us to see how they run their club and to give us the opportunity to interact with their members.
Our arrival unfortunately coincided with the attendance of a very youthful looking policeman who arrived to deal with (not us) some rowdy youths who had been refused admission for being in possession of alcohol. Once this had been attended to, Claire explained to us that they had a no smoking, drinking or drugs ruling and that it was strictly enforced.
Apart from Claire there were two other youth workers in attendance and the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. A number of us tried our hands at pool and table tennis much to the amusement of the youngsters and we looked into the craft room and got involved with their projects. We felt the club was well laid out and sympathetic to the needs of young people.
We had a brief discussion with the policeman before he went ( We all thought he looked about 15 years old!) and after a very pleasant 2 hours Claire took photos and expressed an interest in us going back again, which we intend to do.
